Sunstar Solar Pool Heating
Solar Pool Heating
Love your pool but wish you could use it more? Solar pool heating is a great way to extend your pool season by keeping it warm enough to enjoy in spring and fall, not just summer. A solar pool heating system works with your existing pool heater to keep the water warm, and the bill low.
Solar Pool Heating Basics:
A solar pool heating system from Precision Solar is composed of black plastic (polypropylene) solar panels. Water runs through the tubing in the panels and collects heat as it passes through, and feeds into your pool.
At precision Solar, we are pleased to offer the best pool solar panels in the business.

HOW THEY WORK
Most solar pool heating systems include the following:
- Solar collectors — the solar panels through which pool water is circulated to be heated by the sun
- A filter — removes debris before water is pumped through the collector
- A pump — circulates water through the filter and collector and back to the pool
- A flow control valve — automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the solar collectors when the sun is out.
Pool water is pumped through the filter and then through the solar collector(s), where it is heated and returned to the pool. In hot climates, the collector(s) can also be used to cool the pool during peak summer months by circulating the water through the collector(s) at night.
Some solar panel systems include sensors and an automatic or manual valve to divert water through the collector(s) when the collector temperature is sufficiently greater than the pool temperature. When the collector temperature is similar to the pool temperature, filtered water simply bypasses the collector(s) and is returned to the pool.
Solar pool collectors are made out of different materials. The type you’ll need depends on your climate and how you intend to use the collector.

A solar pool heating system has a typical payback period of 2-4 years. There are several factors that affect the savings realized with a solar pool heating system including your climate, the size of the pool, your gas cost, the pool temperature you wish to maintain, whether or not you use a pool cover, your climate zone, and many others. These factors are taken into consideration when sizing your solar pool heating system.

Solar Pool Heating
Why should I install a solar pool heating system?
Sunstar is the best solar pool heater. It is the best in performance and durability. Installing a solar pool heating system will give you the most cost effective and environmentally safe way to heat your swimming pool and spa. Solar pool heating can give you an extended season for recreational use of your pool. Having a home or business in Southern California provides the perfect climate and opportunity to benefit from the free, year round, power of the sun.
Will a solar pool heating system save money?
If your pool is heated using natural gas through the normal swim season, switching to a solar pool heating system can pay for itself in 2-3 years.
If the pool does not have a gas heater, solar will not really “save” money, BUT the pool temperature will increase and it will be much more inviting.
A swimming pool represents a sizable investment. Maintenance costs will always exist whether the pool is used or not. A solar pool heating system will assure that the pool is used and enjoyed much more year round.
How does a solar pool heating system work?
A solar pool and spa heating system will work together with your current filtration system. Pool water is pumped through the existing filter and then through thermal collection panels which are positioned in a sunny location. The water cycling through the panels absorbs the heat generated from the sun and then circulates it back into the pool. The temperature is monitored and regulated using sensors to keep the pool at the desired comfort level.
How long will solar pool heating panels last?
On average, solar pool heating panels should hold up for 20 years and sometimes longer. In fact, AMECO installed solar pool systems in the late 1970s and early 1980s that are still functioning today.
